Michelle Zelena

Dr. Zelena (maiden name Prowse) received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy at Auckland University of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand in 2003. She moved to the United States in 2004 after receiving a track and field scholarship and completed her Masters in Exercise Science from Oklahoma State University (OSU) in 2005. During her time competing for OSU, Dr. Zelena was an academic All-American and was 10th at the Division 1 NCAAs in the 5K final.

Dr. Zelena moved to California in 2007 to obtain her Doctorate in Science in Physical Therapy at Loma Linda University and graduated in 2010.  She worked as a research coordinator at the Physical Fitness and Physiology research lab and during this time she was involved in 30 publications in areas including bone remodeling and exercise, diabetes and exercise, aging and balance, low back pain, musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging and blood flow with various heating modailities. Dr. Zelena was a co-lecturer for Pathophysiology for the DPT class in 2008 at Asuza Pacific University and was a guest lecturer for Exercise Prescription at the Life and Health Conference in Slovakia in 2008 and the World Health Conference in Switzerland in 2009.

She moved to Santa Cruz in 2010 to pursue more clinical experience and met her husband while hiking in Monterey, they now enjoy living in Capitola. Dr. Zelena runs for the Santa Cruz Track Club and assists in coaching for the Wharf to Wharf training group.
