James Vegher

Dr. Vegher grew up in Los Angeles and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  After graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy, he returned home to work in Neurological Rehabilitation. He worked almost exclusively with patients suffering from the after-effects of stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. Vegher was recruited to a supervisory role at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California where he again worked with stroke and other neurological conditions. During his time at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Vegher received advanced training in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and the Maitland approach to orthopedic conditions. Dr. Vegher served as a guest lecturer on pathologic gait at Mount Saint Mary’s Physical Therapy Program as well as on reimbursement issues at state-wide conferences and served as a clinical instructor for students around the country.

It was in Los Angeles that Dr. Vegher became a Board Certified Specialist in Neurological Physical Therapy. Dr. Vegher switched jobs to become a supervisor in Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles’ physical therapy department. Here, he developed a post-stroke exercise class, a balance/fall prevention exercise class and participated in the development of a Southern California-wide vestibular rehabilitation protocol. Dr. Vegher started his education toward achieving his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Pacific University in 2003. He continued his clinical education by participating in the Movement Science Fellowship through Kaiser Permanente which included training in the concepts of Movement System Impairment by Shirley Sahrmann, PhD and Neuromuscular Imbalance by Vladimir Janda, MD, DSc and the Prague School of Rehabilitation.

Dr. Vegher moved to Santa Cruz in 2004 with his family where he opened Precision Physical Therapy & Fitness to establish a new standard in physical therapy care. He received a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2007 after completing his capstone project of developing a clinical reasoning tool to assist novice physical therapists when working with patients with neurological conditions. He became one of only 65 certified Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization practitioners in the country in 2013 and continues his education and training through the Prague School of Rehabilitation and the Postural Restoration Institute.
